Chemical Name: Linolenic, Linoleic, Arachidonic Acid

Recommended Daily Allowance: None Established

Physiological Effects: Important for respiration of vital organs.  Aids oxygen in being transported by the bloodstream to all cells, tissues, and organs. Helps maintain resiliency and lubrication of all cells.  Combines with protein and cholesterol to form membranes that hold cells together. Influences blood coagulation. Helps break up blood deposited on blood vessel walls.  Aids normal glandular activity, especially adrenal and thyroid.  Nourishes skin cells and is essential for mucous membranes.

Deficiency Disorders: Lusterless and brittle hair, nail problems, dermatitis, impairment of reproduction and growth, dandruff, lowers intestinal bacterioflora, varicose veins, underweight, gall stones, retarded growth.

Natural Sources: Wheat germ, seeds and nuts, cod liver oil, sunflowers, safflower, corn, soybeans, cottonseed, and peanut oils, avocados.

Synergistic Substances: B complex, especially niacin, choline, inositol, Vitamins C and D, phosphorus, fat soluble vitamins.

Antagonistic Substances: X-ray treatments, radiation, and air.
