Daily Allowance: (FDA) 5 I.U. for infants, 60 I.U. for adults, pregnant
and lactating women.
Physiological
Effects: Essential for adequate absorption of iron. Protects all fat-soluble vitamins. Essential for the maintenance and function of
red blood cells. Protects the pituitary,
adrenal and sex hormones. Essential for
normal reproduction in certain animal species.
Aids new blood vessel formation around damaged areas. Essential for cellular respiration. Prevents blood clots. Helps maintain the viscosity of the
blood. It is an antioxidant and cancer
retardant. Improves circulation and
prevents rancidity of fats. Helpful in
healing wounds burns and sunburn. Reduces
cholesterol. May help resist effects of
aging.
Deficiency
Disorders: Reproductive disorders in many animals and increases the
incidence of abortion and menstrual disorders.
Ruptured red blood cells, muscular dystrophies, fat deposits in muscles,
