Chemical Name: Pyridoxine

Recommended Daily Allowance: (FDA) .4 mg for infants,

             2.0 mg for adults

             2.5 mg for pregnant and lactating women

Physiological Effects: Essential for metabolism of amino acids, fats (particularly the essential and saturated fatty acids) and carbohydrates.  Aids in antibody production.  Helps maintain sodium and potassium balance.  Involved in DNA and RNA activities.  Facilitates glycogen conversions to glucose and lowers cholesterol. Helps combat birth control pill problems.  Aids in the absorption of Vitamin B12 and the production of HCL and magnesium.  Must be present for the production of red blood cells. Acts as a natural diuretic, aids adrenal function.

Deficiency Disorders: Anemia, mouth disorders, skin conditions, convulsive and epileptic seizures, muscle and nerve pain, joint swelling, menstrual and menopausal problems, kidney stones, vomiting, nausea, vertigo and confusion, greenish tint to the urine, slow learning and visual disturbances, neuritis, arthritis, heart disorders, and polyuria.  "Carpal Tunnel Syndrome."  Adrenal gland exhaustion, irritability.

Natural Sources: Bananas, raw meat and whole grains, Brewer's yeast and bran, liver and organ meats, cabbage, potatoes, peas, green peppers, milk, eggs.

Synergistic Substances: Magnesium, B complex vitamins, panthothenic acid, Vitamin C., potassium, linoleic acid, sodium, calcium.

Antagonistic Substances: Heat, light, radiation, oral contraceptives and certain drugs, Apresoline, Betapar, Brevicon, Cortisone, Deurulen, Sterazolidin, D.E.S., Hydotension Plus, Norinyl, Os-Cal-Mone, Prednisone, Ser-Ap-Es, alcohol, food processing techniques, long storage, water.
