Recommended Daily Allowance: (FDA) 1500 I.U. for infants
5000 I.U. for adults
8000 I.U. for pregnant and lactating women
Physiological Effects: Maintains
integrity of the epithelial cells.
Maintains health of the eyes. Aids in bone and tooth formation. Aids in
night vision. Aids growth and repair of
body tissues. Involved in RNA
synthesis. Involved in reproduction and
lactation, resistance to infections.
Deficiency Disorders: Predisposition to
infections, poor night vision, zerophthalmia, rough, dry, scaly skin, acne,
reproductive difficulties ended aberration, corneal ulcers, dry and brittle
hair, blindness, sinusitis, allergies, anorexia, lethargy, impaired
dentition. Kidney stones and gastritis.
Natural Sources: Fish liver oils, butter, liver,
carrots, milk, cheese, eggs, apricots, spinach, pumpkin, oat flakes, raisin
bran, cantaloupe, sweet potatoes, broccoli, green and yellow vegetables.
Synergistic Substances: Fats, minerals,
and other fat-soluble vitamins, protein, choline, zinc, calcium, and
phosphorus, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, and B complex, bile salts, and lecithin.
Antagonistic Substances: Mineral oil,
strong lights, pollutants, lack of Vitamin D, oxidation, steroid drugs
(cortisone), PCB, sodium benzoate, nitrites, DDT, Dieldrin, aflatoxin, alcohol,
coffee, excessive iron, and ultra violet light.
