Recommended Daily Allowance: 2.5-5 mg

Physiological Effects: Aids in glucose metabolism, fat synthesis, and metabolism.  Synthesis of cholesterol.  Enzyme activator.  Needed for skeletal development.  Maintains sex hormone production.  Plays a part in protein, carbohydrates and fat production.  Involved in blood formation.  Involved in production of nucleic acids and cartilage.

Deficiency Disorders: Weak ligaments and muscular incoordinations, vertigo, blindness and deafness in infants, diabetes, possible etiological factors in multiple sclerosis, myasthenia gravis, allergies, and epileptic seizures, fatigue.

Natural Sources: Organ meats, whole grains, green leafy vegetables, nuts, pineapples, egg yokes, bran, wheat germ, seeds, legumes.

Synergistic Substances: Vitamins B and D, calcium and phosphorus.

Antagonistic Substances: Excessive intake of calcium, phosphorus, and iron.
