Recommended Daily Allowance: (FDA)  600 mg for infants.

            1000 mg for adults.

                         1300 mg for pregnant and lactating women.

Physiological Effects: Helps develop and maintain strong bones and teeth.  Essential for the clotting of blood, nerve transmission and muscle physiology.  Helps regulate heartbeat.  Aids in hormonal functions.  Retards increase in cholesterol level and other lipids.  Reduces triglycerides in the blood thus lowering blood pressure.

Deficiency Disorders: Diseases of bones and teeth, osteoporosis, brittle bones, tetany, leg cramps, excessive and prolonged menstruation, nervousness and irritability, insomnia, arthritis, heart trouble, periodontal disease, numbness of arms and legs, brittle nails.

Natural Sources: Bone meal, milk, oyster shells, molasses, dolomite, egg yolks, green leafy vegetables, yogurt, cheese, sardines, soybeans, wheat germ.

Synergistic Substances: Magnesium, phosphorus, Vitamins A, C, D, hydrochloric acid in the stomach, adequate protein and fat, fatty acids, iron and manganese, lysine.

Antagonistic Substances: Sugar, bicarbonate of soda and other antacids, excess of phosphorus, lack of HCl, Vitamin D or magnesium, excessive saturated fats, Achromycin, Premarin, Tetracyn, antibiotics, laxatives, diuretics, Dilantin, phenobarbital, stress, phytic acid, oxalic acid.
